While lies and half-truths spiral and go viral, the truth has finally materialized concerning Globacom’s purported sack of some female employees for being married. Contrary to speculations and rumours about the telecoms giant’s reason for laying off the affected staff, Globacom on Wednesday said letters circulating online about the firm sacking married women were fake.

Andrew Okeleke, head of Public Relations, made this known in a press briefing on Wednesday, in Lagos. He said the company did not issue such letter.  He also added that the firm let go of some staff due to performance issues  and it was a routine exercise that affected all staff irrespective of gender or marital status.

Even though the rumour was false, several bloggers pounced on the gossip; like harbingers of pain and ill will, they cast it across the social media not minding the consequences of reporting lies as truth.

The bloggers, acting like the votaries of cults, which, by definition are dedicated to whitewashing warts and hanging halos, spread the damaging news like toxic fart, in desperate bid to incite malice and ill will against the telecoms giant.

As you read, Andrew stated, there are many married women working with Globacom and their jobs had never been more secure. For good measure, the company had recently replaced men in sensitive positions with women who were deemed, better qualified to man those posts.

Corroborating him, a senior male staff of the company argued that the foremost indigenous telecoms giant in the country, takes good care of its staff irrespective of their gender or marital status.
